30 Days of Writing Challenge Day 5: “A song that needs to be played loud”

As a person who has a strong bond with rock music since my childhood, maybe you all will guess that I will talk about another rock song for this topic. Yeah, I agree that all kinds of rock songs need to be played out loud. Rock music is a perfect fit for all types of situations (not applies to all people). There are sad rock songs, angry rock songs, political rock songs, love rock songs, even rock songs that talk about god (read: Skillet). In my opinion, If you’re not a big fan of rock songs, calm down. I’m not going to talk about a rock song for today. Instead, I’m about to tell you all a piece by an amazingly talented 14 years old girl; New Love by Gabriela Bee.

At first, I thought Gabi is just one of those kids who make stupid songs and got famous because of their famous parents. Well, she successfully breaks my thought with her single: “Hoodie Song” and “Dancing by Myself”. Those songs are released when she was 13, and I assume she is the source of the songs’ stories. I thought the pieces would be another childish love song like Johnny Orlando’s or a child’s motivational song like Jojo Siwa’s. And yes, my thoughts are broken by Gabi’s stories in her songs. I think her lyrics are adults’ thoughts coming from a 14-year-old. You all can check her out on Spotify because I don’t think those two songs fit today’s criteria.

The first thing that makes “New Love” suitable with today’s criteria is the amazing lyric. Again I remind you all I’m a big fan of rhymes. Tokyo Speirs & Gabi did a great job with the words.

“The world seems safer from the Empire State”
Said the waiter on the mezzanine floor
It’s a long elevator to the rooftop
But it doesn’t seem to shake me anymore

These great and satisfying rhymes are a fine tune for my ears. Although I know Gabi might didn’t write this on her own. But this song got a powerful message coming out from a 14 years old girl. It is just unbelievable for me. I bet my 14 years old self didn’t even think about those things. All I remember when I was 14 is just how impatient I was to get back home from school, spend the evening lying down on my bed, and waiting for the weekend to come so I can play with my Xbox.

We’re all born with hands fit for holding
And ten toes to feel the shore
We’re all told the heart aches alone
But nothing’s gonna break me anymore

That part is my favorite part of this song. And I think that we need to spread this message out loud. The music got quieter in this part, and her voice gives me goosebumps. Her voice sounds mature for a 14-year-old. I think she’s an adult stuck in a 14-year-old body. Overall, this song’s vibe is a perfect mood booster. Small details in the percussions are the parts that make this song feels more “alive”.

This song always boosts my mood up when I feel like I’m not enough for everyone. It constantly reminds me that the first thing I need to confirm is my love for myself. I need to feel a lot more confident with myself before I can back others up. Love myself first before I love others. We are all born with hands fit for holding, so there is no reason for us not to hold each other. New Love we need is a love for ourselves. You’ll find every place as a home if you love yourself. Your love for yourself will be a light in your universe. Nothing ever matters anymore when we all got love for ourselves, and we back each other up.
